とにかく描き始めてから
様子をみていると
どんどん色が重なって
違うものになっていって
頭で考えていた方向と
違うほうへ進んでいって

終わってから
これいいね！
なーんて思ったりすることもあるけど

また同じことをやろうとすると
どうもつまんない
すでに行き着いた場所へまた行こうとしているから

しょうがないから
なんか意味を探したりして



Using the tiny voices
and flash images of color
as guidance
but not really knowing where I'm headed

I like what I end up with
and inevitably try to recreate it

の話でもちきりだった

保険制度のせいで

身体的、経済的、精神的に辛い思いをしている人が

大勢いるアメリカ

そんな話ばかり聞いていた

影響かも

こういうのって

こじつけが多いんだけどね

笑

I really have no idea 

where this image came from

One suspicion I have 

is that I've been listening to NPR

and the news and commantary 

about Obama's healthcare reform

way too much.

What does it mean to be free?

One can be free on may levels

It all sounds good

but I hope to know 

and appreciate

the real meaning of freedom.

from a secret admirer.

Actually, it was from Amazon Fresh
as a "Welcome!" for being their new customer.
What a nice touch :)

を求めてしまう
欲求の表れ？

なんて深い意味を求めてみたり

でも結局あたまで考えて納得することよりも
フィーリングでピンときたことのほうが
はるかに的をえていることに気づく
今日この頃です

Someone commented.

A subconsious desire for perfection perhaps?

Perhaps.
Or perhaps not.
Who knows.
Whatever it is, if it feels right, then it must be.

シアトルに来てから

とにかく絵を描いていますが

これなに？

なんでこんなものが？

私はだれっ！？笑

なんて思ってしまうことも

たびたび

描き始めるたびに

ちがうものがでてくるわけですが

そのうち統合されていくのかもしれないね

The only goal being 

to express where I am at the moment

I observe with a curious eye

to see where each work leads

ブッチャーさんがお店に通って

そのときにお店に来ていたお客さんのポートレートを

どんどん描いていく、という楽しい企画

3月も残り少なくなってしまって

もっと早くお知らせするべきでしたが

今週末

ぜひこの三宿の素敵なお店に

足を運んでみてね

ブッチャーさんのゆるくてスマイルなお人柄に癒されながら

ポートレートを描いてもらいに

いろんなつながり広がっていてうれしいね

Received the above photo from Butcher-san

He has been going to Cafe Cherir
(where I had an exhibit last month
to which Butchers-san came and met and hit it off with Joe-san, the owner--yeay!)

with his regular art supplies of 

cardboard paper and charcoal 

and drawing portraits of customers at this awesome venue.

Mar sent me some photos a while back (that's Joe-san in the photo)

and I see that the portraits have been adding up!

Seattle flora

シアトルでは

とにかく一年中

花が咲いてます

前回来たときは

冬真っ只中だったのに

それでも咲いていたのが

とっても印象的でした

今、咲いている花

つばき

まだちょっと寒いけど

春はもうすぐそこです！

One of my favorite things about Seattle 

is the abundance of flowers 

everywhere

all year around

right now:

tulips

plum blossoms

camilia

so so many more

spring is here--yeay!

for the diligent and not so diligent walks on the path
 

It seemed to come out of nowhere

A serendipitous spark

Every time I think about it

It makes me want to simply say

19日の「la la loop!」から１０日たちました

とても素敵な時間でした

いろんな意味で

アメリカに移る直前に

そんなイベントできるかいな？

とはじめは思ったけど

あまりにも慌しかったおかげで

考えるひまもなく

わかっていながらもなかなかできない

「流れにまかせる」ということを

自然にやっていました

もちろんそこには

今回のテーマでもあった

「つながり」があったおかげです

参加してくれた人
かけつけてくれた人
サポートしてくれた人

本当にありがとう

「手放すこと」について
えらそうにポエムなんて書いたけど
そうすると奇跡が起こるって
本当なんだね

Awesome guys at Cafe Cherir

It's already been 10 days since the event La La Loop!

It was a crazy idea to try to pull this off
three days before my departure to the US.

When Mar first suggested it
I thought he was out of his mind.

"Instead of having a plain old farewell get-together,"
he said
"Why not make it an event?
You do an art exhibition, plus live painting
We (Numb) will provide live music
and Utae will make a whole pile of "Amy dolls"
and sell them for 500 yen each to give to you as part of your airfare!!"



It sounded like too much fun not to do it.

Needless to say, my last few weeks in Tokyo
was absolutely mad.

But because it was so horrendously mad
I had no time to think
which proved to be a great blessing
as it naturally made me get out of my own way.

I just let go.

And lo and behold
everything went smoothly.

And the event

was just plain amazing.

Of course

none of this could have been possible

without the help and support
(the "connection" as was the theme for the event)

of everyone

including the staff at Cherir.

And for that

I am so deeply grateful.

Without really realizing it

I was actually experiencing 

what I had written up as a poem for the event.

Dance
Spin like a loop and let your heart open up
Get silly
Be a child
For no other reason than to connect with other hearts

Connect
Through friendly smiles
Warm hugs, loving kisses
Exchange of common energies

Always
There is more than one way to connect

Loneliness, isolation
Are other words for disconnection
We scrounge and cling to the little evidence of connection we can find

But if we only let ourselves entertain the possibility
That we are only separated above ground
And under the soil
Are powerful roots
That grow out of the same warm place

And trust
And let go
Really let go
Let our branches sway with the wind
Allow ourselves to dance with our hands free

Perhaps then
And only then
Will we truly and authentically feel
 Connected
